MyOn is an online enhanced library. They offer a variety of titles, including graphic novels which are very popular. Students can pick any book they want and the books will be at the student's reading level. After reading, the student then rates the book. Student earn badges for reading, rating, and taking quizzes on the books they read. You can access MyOn from home at myon.com.

Persuasive Letter: We are writing a persuasive friendly letter to Ms. Dickinson.

Grammar: Reviewing nouns, adjectives, and verbs in preparation for our end of unit test on March 2nd.

Spelling (Words Their Ways):

Your child will have an differentiated spelling list and we will be in a spelling group. They will write their spelling words in their agendas and keep their word cards at school.

Our genre focus for the rest of February and March is poetry.

*We have been building up own reading passage stamina. As of now, the students are taking a reading test that includes two passages with comprehension questions. Starting in March, they will be reading and answering comprehension questions with 3-4 passages. The students are expected to not just answer the questions, but to show their thinking (text evidence). The students loose points when they do not show how they go their answers (text evidence).


Skills/Strategies: Figurative language/imagery.
Vocabulary: Lesson


Reading homework: Your child is expected to read 30 minutes every day and write 2 summaries (3-5 sentences about what they read in their own words) of 2 different chapters, books, magazines, etc. each week in their Reading Logs (spirals). Reading Logs will be checked at the end of the week.

Economics: We are learning about goods, services, supply, demand, small businesses, free enterprise system, expenses, profit, and creating a budget. We will be applying this knowledge to assist us in designing our own business plan.


IIM Spring Project: Open for Business--The students will create their own business plan about an imaginary business they will create to offer a product or service for the community. The timeline for the parts of the project are below. The first part of the project, the business partner agreement, is due Friday, February 24th. We sent home the project packet and business partner agreement Monday. If your child misplaced his/her copy, you can download it below.
